19. Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, Hebrews 10:19 The author, being a Hebrew, is encouraging other Hebrews who are believers in Christ. The high priest could only enter the holiest place in the temple, behind a foot-thick curtain, once a year on the Day of Atonement. If the priest made a mistake in offering atonement for the sins of the people and himself, he would pay with his life. Jesus brought a new way; through His sacrifice, He has removed the curtain of separation with His blood. Now all believers covered in Christ's righteousness have access to the Almighty. The word "having" is translated as "we now possess," as if we held in our hand the confidence to approach the Almighty because Christ has removed sin, its punishment, and its guilt. The sacrifice of Jesus has made our peace with God. Our pardon has been established, justice is satisfied, there is nothing to fear; the everlasting covenant has been confirmed. To refuse Christ as Savior is to refuse salvation and accept eternal judgment in place of Christ's reward. Amen.
