In 1948 The Hartman brothers received a copyright on the “Mountain Dew” name.
Brothers Ally and Barney Hartman created the drink in the early 1940s to mix with liquor drinks. The term Mountain Dew was what they called Tennessee Moonshine, and by 1946 they had the famous Hillbilly design on the packaging.
Today Mountain Dew is one of the most recognizable brands in the world, and the inspiration behind it all came from Appalachian Mountain culture.
