Trooper’s Law (SB 150) — signed by Governor Ron DeSantis — makes it a third-degree felony to restrain or abandon a dog outdoors during a declared natural disaster or mandatory evacuation. The penalties are severe: up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. But for thousands of dogs who once had no protection, this law could mean the difference between life and death.The message is clear: if you have time to evacuate yourself, you have time to save your pet.This new law isn’t about punishment alone — it’s about accountability, compassion, and preparation.
