NEW Houston-based NGO that registered illegal migrants to vote being sued by the state of TexasThe nonprofit is accused of orchestrating a deliberate scheme to register illegal migrants as voters, potentially tilting the scales in future elections.The state is now suing to permanently dissolve the group's operations in the state.Attorney General Ken Paxton's office alleges that Jolt, which bills itself as a civic engagement organization for young Latinos, has systematically violated Texas election laws by training and directing volunteers to collect and submit fraudulent voter registration forms from ineligible individuals.This comes as revelations that Texas recently identified more than 2,700 potential noncitizens on its voter rolls.Jolt volunteers were allegedly stationed outside Department of Motor Vehicles offices, providing instructions that encouraged the submission of false applications without verifying citizenship or eligibility, in direct defiance of state law.The group is said to have recruited and coordinated deputy registrars to solicit unlawful registrations, possibly targeting illegal migrants lacking proper ID, as part of a broader effort to "subvert the election process.""This radical outfit knows they can't win elections through honest means, so they resort to cheating by flooding the rolls with criminals who have no right to vote," Paxton stated in a release. "We're drawing a hard line:Anyone attempting to corrupt our democracy will face the full weight of Texas justice."The case builds on a year-long investigation launched in August 2024. hat probe intensified after a statewide audit in October uncovered the 2,700 questionable registrations, prompting reviews in all 254 counties.Separately, authorities are examining instances of alleged noncitizen voting from the 2024 general election.
