For the people who keep claiming “Trump & Republicans are racist” read this:The President who went after the Ku Klux Klan was a Republican.Ulysses S. Grant, the 18th President.He signed the Ku Klux Klan Act of 1871and sent in federal troops to enforce it.He used the power of the federal government to arrest Klan members and protect Black Americans who were voting Republican during Reconstruction.The KKK was created to stop Black Republicans from voting.That is not up for debate — that is documented U.S. history.So before people repeat the same tired line: • Republicans ended slavery. • Republicans passed the Civil Rights Amendments. • Republicans used federal troops to stop the Klan.If you’re going to talk about racism in America,at least know who was actually fighting it.
