1. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. Psalm 23:1. King David knew the task of a shepherd before he became a king. To have Christ as Shepherd, you must admit you are sheep. King David makes it clear that Christ is his Shepherd; it's personal. Sheep have no sense of direction and will wander off the path. Sheep are defenseless. Sheep that are cast down (turned over on their back) cannot stand up without help. Sheep cannot carry burdens. Sheep will settle for less, drinking water from a muddy pool when clear water is just ahead. Sheep cannot care for themselves. I see myself in many of these statements. Jesus is the Good Shepherd; there is no other. The Good Shepherd laid down His life for the sheep. Christ left heaven, became a man, and took a job that was the lowest possible position. Why? Because to Christ, who made all things, the sheep were valuable. So valuable that Christ would give His life to save the sheep. I am almost 73, and I have learned by experience that I needed Christ as Shepherd. Sheep follow, and I will follow Christ, for He knows the way to Heaven. And I am truly lost without Christ as Savior. Amen.
