6. But godliness with contentment is great gain.
7. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
1 Timothy 6:6-7.
Paul's warning to Timothy was to avoid men who think wealth is given because God approves of them, or men who preach the Gospel to make a living, lusting after the things of the world instead of Christ.
The world cannot supply contentment.
The meaning of this word in Greek is an attitude of life in which no aid or support is needed, a mind that is satisfied with how everything is.
Envy, strife, and contention are signs of an unsatisfied spirit. These preachers will deny God's word, or ignore it, or explain it away. Stay away from such. They preach what you can get from Christ, instead of what we need to give to Him.
There is no end to what the eyes want and what the ears wish to hear.
Contentment is essential; we can only find it when the heart is rooted in eternal things. Real contentment isn't too difficult for those whose home is heaven, for heaven's citizens will lack nothing.
And knowing this, that the world is not eternal yet heaven is.
Christ died so our joy may be full; whatever is full, no more can be added to it. Amen.
