5. For bodily exercise profits little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.1 Timothy 4:8. Paul's instruction to Timothy is also good for us. Paul explains it is a faithful saying and true, and the godly will follow it. For exercise will profit the body at any age, but it will not out run the time that happens to all of mankind. Yet to exercise oneself in godliness has a promise of the life right now, and the promise of the life to come, which will have no end. Not everyone considers that we all live forever after death. Some go to an eternal reward, the rest to eternal destruction that they cannot imagine. Exercise for the body and exercise in godliness both take commitment, effort, and sacrifice. And there is nothing wrong with taking care of yourself, but make sure you do not put the body before Christ. Choose your exercise wisely; only one has a glorious reward with Christ. Amen.
