1. The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; Isaiah 61:1. Jesus read these words aloud in the synagogue of Nazareth, sat down, and said, "Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing." Jesus, being perfect as God and as a man, still needed the Spirit of God to minister. How much more do we? Christ fulfilled the law of the kinsman-redeemer. This role bought back an Israelite out of slavery, avenged the murder of a family member, bought back land that had been forfeited, and married a childless widow to carry on the family name. The redeemer was to safeguard the persons, property, and posterity of the family. The redeemer only worked when asked. So it is today: we turn from our transgressions and ask Jesus for His salvation, and He is faithful to complete all we asks and more. Amen.
