An Israeli soldier who was released said that Hamas provided him with a Torah and prayer tools during his captivity.
The soldier, Matan Ingerst, who had been held by Hamas and was released on Monday, told Israel’s Channel 13 in his first statement after his release that the group fulfilled his requests to provide Jewish prayer items and a Torah during his time in captivity in the Gaza Strip.
He said he asked his captors for tefillin (a small leather box worn on the forehead during prayer), a siddur (Jewish prayer book), and a Torah. According to him, Hamas provided these items, which had been taken from areas where Israeli forces had operated inside Gaza.
Ingerst added that he prayed three times a day inside the tunnels and that he survived several Israeli airstrikes that targeted the areas where he was being held.
