news Calls for investigation into South Carolina's Attorney General after 92% of child porn cases were dismissedNew data reveals that South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson’s office dismissed 92.5% of child pornography and sexual exploitation cases in Dorchester County between 2019 and 2022.Congresswoman Nancy Mace is demanding answers, labeling the statistics "appalling and indefensible."Christina Aguayo News The data, detailed in the First Circuit Solicitor’s 2022–2023 budget request for Dorchester County, highlights systemic issues in how Wilson’s office has handled these offenses.385 cases involving child pornography and sexual exploitation of minors, were prosecuted by the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office.356 cases were dropped entirely, representing 92.5% of the total29 cases resulted in guilty verdicts, which is a 7.5% success rate.Out of all the cases two defendants received active prison sentences, while the others got probation or time served.Christina Aguayo News An additional 324 cases remain unresolved, with an average age of 740 days – that's over two years of delays.First Circuit Solicitor David Pascoe, frustrated by what he calls a "pattern of lenient plea bargains," has formally asked to reclaim prosecution authority from Wilson’s office.Law enforcement in the circuit has reportedly lost faith in the AG’s approach, arguing it undermines victims and fails to deter future crimes.Mace has sent a letter to the DOJ calling for an independent audit of Wilson’s handling of Internet Crimes Against Children cases.She's also pushing for an investigation by the South Carolina Inspector General and urging the state legislature to look into how many other counties might be affected."Protecting children from sexual exploitation is a moral issue, not a partisan one," Mace said.
