5. The LORD is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot.Psalm 16:5. The psalmist shows his trust in Christ. Being of a large family and the youngest, he could expect nothing. Yet the Lord was his inheritance, who provided everything for him. We can go deeper in this verse and see Christ praising the Father for His inheritance, the Church. And the cup assigned to Christ, of blessing, of sorrows and sufferings, being measured out, filled up by the Father. Christ freely took of the cup in full for the benefit of all believers. And we may fall, but we will not be forsaken or perish, for Christ's salvation is sure and eternal. Amen.
