4. But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
5. Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
Ephesians 2:4-5.
Paul expresses God's reconciliation to mankind.
Since all are dead in sin, God's mercy, which cannot be measured, and His love, by which He offered up His only Son, and His grace, the unmerited favor of God, which cannot be earned, is only received.
Hath quickened us in Christ. This word means to reanimate, to bring back to life. This means that at the time of conversion, a new life begins, morally and spiritually.
And at the end of life's journey, because of Christ's victory over death, we too shall be raised from the grave.
To share with all Christ's followers the promise of eternal life with our Lord. Amen.
