2. I sleep, but my heart waketh: it is the voice of my beloved that knocketh, saying, Open to me, my sister, my love, my dove, my undefiled:Song of Songs 5:2.The maiden (church) is sleeping. Hearing the voice of her beloved (Christ), He knocks; Revelation 3:20. He addresses her as "my sister," the church is Christ's family by adoption. And "my love," Christ's love for His church was displayed on the Cross. "My dove" signifies a church faithful to her Husband, Christ. "My undefiled" represents a church that is ethical and morally blameless, covered in Christ's righteousness. Now, in all these appeals, the maiden (church) didn't go to the door swiftly but delayed, being reluctant, making excuses along the way, showing an insensitive spirit. Does this sound familiar to anyone? We need always to be receptive to Christ's desire to have a relationship with His church. We are His church. Amen.
