An 83-year-old Army veteran arrived in Paris and was asked by a strict officer to show his passport. While searching for it, the officer asked if he had been to Paris before. The veteran said YES. She told him, “Then you should already know that you must have your passport ready.” The old man replied calmly, “I didn’t need to show it the last time I was here.”
The officer looked confused and said, “That’s not possible. Everyone who comes to Paris must show a passport.” The veteran leaned closer and explained, “When I came on D-Day in 1944, I couldn’t find any Frenchmen to show it to, and we were busy fighting to free this city.”
