1. Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.1 Corinthians 13:1. Paul uses the word charity, which is defined in Greek as affliction, good-will, love, benevolence, especially of Christians toward Christians. This is impossible for the natural man until he experiences conversion to Christ and is filled with the love of God. Paul maintains that if he could speak every language of mankind and could converse with the grace of an angel of God, and had no love for Christ or His people, the sounds he made would be worthless, like a brass instrument or cymbal being struck without musical accompaniment. We really do not understand love as mentioned here. Christ showed His love in deed, not just word. But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8. Amen.
