26. For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.1 Corinthians 11:26. Paul reveals that the night Jesus was betrayed, He was betrayed by one of His own. The bread broken reminds us of the punishment Christ took on His body for us. And the cup reminds us that without blood no sin is forgiven. This last supper of the Lord changed the contract or covenant of God, using animals as a substitute for Christ's blood for the remission of sins, but this was a temporary solution. Christ died once for sin, never to be repeated. It was the final solution for sin, coming from the blood of our Savior. Alan Redpath said, "As you break bread and bow your heart before Him, what sort of sermon are you preaching often we have broken bread together around the Lord's table, and then we have gone out to do just what those disciples did - we have denied Him." I myself am guilty of this in the past. But now I have an understanding of what my sin cost, and that if I did not make heaven, it certainly would not be any fault of Christ's. Therefore I have put my flesh, my mind, my desires, my dreams, my words, in submission to Christ, who gave His life for me. Amen.
