๐จ The Texas Senate is Ending Political Fundraising Loopholes in Special Sessions ๐จThe Senate has passed my bill, SB 19, a Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick priority I filed at his request during the 2nd Called 89th Special Session. This bipartisan legislation (21โ6 vote) closes a critical loophole by banning political fundraising by statewide officeholders and legislators during special sessions, as we already do for regular sessions!Public policy must come first! EVERY SESSION, not only during regular sessions. With 9 special sessions in just the last 5 years, ๐ the data is clear: Texans deserve better than quorum breaks and political fundraising! As Office of the Lieutenant Governor of Texas, Dan Patrick said: โThis bill makes sure members focus on passing laws, not raising money.โ In the Dallas Morning News coverage here: https://www.dallasnews.com/news/politics/2025/08/27/texas-senate-passes-bill-banning-elected-officials-from-fundraising-in-special-sessions/ โ
SB 19 closes those loopholes by stopping fundraising distractions that reduce quorum breakssince outside groups canโt bankroll members leaving the state, cutting down on unnecessary special sessions.SB 19 now heads to the Texas House, where Chairman Representative Matt Shaheen has filed related legislation. With the support of Governor Greg Abbott, the Senate, and House Speaker Dustin Burrows for Texas, weโre working to keep legislators accountable and on task.๐ Read the Dallas Morning News ๐๏ธ below NOW for more!
