Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain.
1 Corinthians 9:24.
Paul compares the Christian life to a competition in ancient Greece. The athletes must prepare themselves for competition; each person trains, refusing anything that would hinder them from winning first place. A Christian must train the inner man, to be in control over the body and mind, avoiding anything that would hinder acquiring the gift of eternal life, purchased by Christ's blood. Each follower of Christ has their own battles; each is tested in God's own wisdom. Unlike the athletic competition, all followers of Christ will receive the reward. But it is not an easy road; many things need be left behind and filled with the gifts of God through the Spirit of the Living God. The struggle is real, the reward eternal. Joy with Christ for all eternity. Amen.
