4. The LORD hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.
Psalm 110:4.
Psalm 110 was written around 1004 years before the birth of Christ, and the psalmist has a clear view of Christ. The Almighty, because He could swear by none higher, gives an oath on Himself, that Christ is an eternal King and Priest. Melchizedek means King of Sedeq, King of righteousness, and King of Salem, King of peace. This King has no mention of father or mother, but Genesis 14:18 calls him the priest of the most High God. And he blessed Abram by the most High God who is the possessor of heaven and earth, giving Abram and his men bread and wine to refresh them after their battle. Now this King is a picture of our King and Priest Christ the Lord. He has been given this title by the Almighty, and it is eternal. Christ has refreshed our souls with His body and blood, and nothing created can remove us from His grace, mercy, pardon, protection, and eternal reward. The redeemed can truly sing the song of Salvation, giving thanks and praise to Christ the Son of the Living God. Amen.
