24. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
Romans 16:24.
Paul is greeting Christians from different areas. All are doing the same work but in various administrations. His short sentence holds great power.
The grace of Christ by which we are redeemed is freely given; it cannot be earned or bargained for. The revelation of the mystery of salvation is now revealed in Christ's death and resurrection, not done in secret but exposed to the whole world.
We are received by the Almighty because of Christ's obedience.
And Paul ends the sentence with amen.
Christians took this word from the synagogue. It means, so it is, so be it, may it be fulfilled, let it be so. After a prayer or a spiritual reading, those in attendance would respond amen, making the substance of what was spoken their own.
When we say amen after verse 24, we are saying that Christ's sacrifice in blood, His very life, is ours, because we receive it. No greater gift can you receive in this life. Amen.
