1. Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions. Psalm 51:1. King David seeks Christ because of His love for sinners, according to the vast amount of mercy for mankind, to blot out his sins. Sin brings a debt. Hebrews 9:22 states that without the shedding of blood, there is no remission. King David has the understanding that Christ can and will blot out the debt of sin. Blot out means to obliterate or exterminate; it is wiped clean from being recorded, from memory, or the sight of God. This is in Christ alone; no other sacrifice will be accepted. Christ, after we acknowledge our sin, will thoroughly cleanse us, restoring our right standing with God; we receive pardon, forgiveness. Because Christ took our place on the cross, we are delivered from the punishment and guilt of our sins as we turn in repentance to Christ our Savior. Amen.
