The fact that our hard-earned tax dollars were used to fund this dereliction of duty is a direct attack on the integrity of our legislative system.Texas Governor Greg Abbott has taken a firm stance on the matter, threatening to declare the seats of any Democrats who do not return by 3 PM on August 4, 2025, as vacant. In a scathing statement, Abbott declared, “This truancy ends now.” He made it clear that those who are absent from the legislative session, choosing to avoid their duties, will face immediate consequences. Abbott is prepared to invoke Texas Attorney General Opinion No. KP-0382 to replace the missing lawmakers. His message is clear: the lawmakers’ failure to show up and do their jobs is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.To make matters even more serious, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has called for the arrest of the Democratic lawmakers who fled the state to block the vote.
