15. The idols of the heathen are silver and gold, the work of men's hands.
16. They have mouths, but they speak not; eyes have they, but they see not;
17. They have ears, but they hear not; neither is there any breath in their mouths.
Psalm 135:15-17.
The psalmist has taken passages from other scriptures to reveal why we are to praise the Creator and Redeemer. We praise Him as Psalm 134:1 speaks of the priests praising the Lord. 2 Chronicles 4:9 says in the courts of the Lord we share in the heavenly Hallelujah. Psalm 73:1, 143:10, we praise the Lord for He is good. Deuteronomy 7:6-8, we praise the Lord, because He loves us and has chosen us. We are His special treasure. We praise Him because in Numbers 21:21, 33, Deuteronomy 3:11, the Lord has defeated the enemies of His people. Our verse today shows the greatness of the Lord in contrast to idols made by men's hands. Every man touches, he defiles. Idols are formed by those who know not the true Creator. They use the things formed by the creator to form an abomination, an insult to the Creator who created all things. If they have no breath, they have no life, no life means they can do no good or evil. They are no protector nor can they destroy. Amen.
