PUT US IN COACH, WE’RE READY TO PLAY, TODAY Cartoon published 07/24/2025 President Trump wants to return classic time-honored mascots to professional sports teams. The Washington Redskins changed their name to the “Washington Commanders” and the Cleveland Indians changed theirs to the “Cleveland Guardians.” A great many fans did not want their cherished mascots memory holed. A great majority of real Indians want the return of the original names. They know the teams were honoring Indians, not denigrating them. Yet the lefty, woke PC madness prevailed and the names were changed to something safe, bland, and boring. Commanders and Communists both have 10 letters. Coincidence? We are kidding, but it’s difficult to cheer something as dreary and perfunctory as “Guardians.” We miss the banging drum when they were the Indians. As for the Redskins, who can forget the Cowboys vs. Redskins rivalry? Cowboys vs. Commanders? It’s just not the same. Some question why Trump would waste his time on such trivialities, but he’s making a larger point. He wants to preserve our culture and traditions. The Democrat Marxists want to destroy all of that to make it easier for them to bring about their communism. We’ve seen the removal of the Indian maiden on “Land of Lakes” butter, cries to remove Aunt Jemima from syrup bottles, Uncle Ben’s face reduced to type on boxes of rice, and Rastus gone from “Cream of Wheat” boxes. Even Mrs. Butterworth bottles came under attack because some thought it was racist and offensive to overweight women. They say such imagery reinforces racism and the ‘happy slave’ mentality, but that’s ridiculous. Human beings deserve to be happy regardless and having diverse, beloved icons on food products and sports team should be seen as a positive thing by the left. But no—their diversity is about dividing us persuading us to feel perpetual hurt and unhappiness. They want us to feel offended over things that are inoffensive. Their puritanical, racial asceticism has gone too far. It’s time to bring back the Cleveland Indians and Washington Redskins. Put Uncle Ben’s face back on the box of rice, too. — Ben Garrison
