Darius Rucker isn't just a famous singer. He has a heart full of kindness. When he found out that children at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital needed help, he didn’t wait. He started a concert called "Darius & Friends" to raise money for kids who needed help. Over the years, he has raised more than $4.3 million to help families get the medical care they need.
Darius also helped build a $150 million children's hospital in his hometown in Charleston, South Carolina. He gave money and told others to join him. This MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children's Hospital means a lot to Darius. His mom's name was Carolyn Rucker and she was a nurse who always cared deeply about others. When Darius was a kid, Carolyn told him, "We don't help people because they’re less fortunate. We help people because they need help."
He wanted to honor her memory by helping children live healthy and happy lives. Darius also gives to schools, helps kids play golf and supports people with disabilities. He said it's not about being rich. It's about doing the right thing.
