4. And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?
5. And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks.
Acts 9:4-5.
Saul, the same man who held the coats of those who stoned Stephen. With letters from the high priest to imprison, any who followed after Christ. Thinking he was doing God a favor.
Christ confronted Saul, asking why he persecuted Him. When your faith is attacked, it is an attack on Jesus who is the Author of our faith.
Telling him, it is hard to kick against the pricks or goads. These are sharp pointed objects to drive livestock to keep them going in the same direction.
Saul as a Pharisee, was taught that God no longer talked to men directly, like with the prophets. But Saul asks the most important question. Who are You, Lord?
Jesus's love for Saul is the same for you and me today.
All you need to do is ask, Who are you, Lord, and what do You want me to do. Amen.
