3. To whom also he shewed himself alive after his passion by many infallible proofs, being seen of them, forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God:
4. And, being assembled with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.
Acts 1:3-5.
Luke and Paul mention in their writings that the proof of Jesus's resurrection is that He was seen by many people, most of them still alive at the time of Paul's ministry.
Before Jesus returns to heaven, He tells His followers not to leave Jerusalem until they receive the promise of the Father. This is the Holy Ghost. They are said to wait. Jesus knew they could do nothing effective for the Kingdom of God, without the Spirit.
Jesus was telling them that what was coming was worth waiting for. It was the promise of the Father, and it was sure. They could not create this themselves, so they must wait. The waiting was a test to see who would stay and receive the promise.
It is the same in our day. We are drawn to Christ through the Spirit. We have no chance of success in living for Christ without the Spirit. This is the promise of the Father, for your success in a life for Christ.
The promise is something we need, it is good, it belongs to all of God's children, it must be received by faith, the Father would not promise what He could not deliver, the promise of the Father, now becomes the promise of the Son. Believe. Amen.
