4. Thou hast given a banner to them that fear thee, that it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah.
Psalm 60:4.
The psalmist penned this song 1040 years before the birth of Christ the Lord.
An ensign or banner would be displayed after a victory in battle. Yet King David has gone beyond his victory over the Edomites. Looking forward to the Lord Jesus and the banner displayed is the Cross. Where total victory has been obtained by Christ. We this very day fight the good fight of faith, and oppose every enemy of the Son of God. Our victory is guaranteed in the blood of Christ. Sin, Satan, and the world have been defeated at the Cross, through Christ.
The world sees the cross as an instrument of death. We see it as our hope of eternal life.
This is not a blanket covering over all. If we live under the banner of the Cross, we must be obedient to its terms. This is the reverence to Christ, who is worshiped, inwardly in the Spirit, and outwardly in body, conforming to Christ, and not the things of this world. This is loving Christ in Spirit and in truth.
Truth is not dependent on our sincerity, or uprightness.
The truth is God's faithfulness in the performance of His promise. Sending Christ, His Son into the world, preaching salvation through the gospel message. Selah, meaning, pause and think on these words. What banner are we under today? Are we victorious under the banner of the Cross of Christ? Each individual must come to the crossroads of life; it's up to you which path you choose. Amen.
