14. Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling. Psalm 49:14. The psalmist gives a contrast between fools who refuse to prepare for what is after death. And the upright who refuse the snares of this world looking to the reward prepared by Christ. The ungodly buried, the body is consumed by death. Those who trust in wealth and beauty will find no comfort after death. Nothing can be taken from this world of sin. The ungodly have no more power over death than sheep over a wolf. Christ has defeated sin, death, and Satan at the Cross. You can see the psalmist understood the salvation message. This Psalm 49 is similar to Hosea 13:14, I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death. Oh death, I will be your plagues! Oh grave, I will be your destruction. The psalmist understood that God and God alone had the power to redeem a soul from the power of the grave. Amen.
