16. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. 17. Sanctify them through thy truth: the word is truth. John 17:15-16. Jesus here prays for the eleven disciples who remain. Jesus says they are not of this world. Jesus was born into this world but He never was of this world, in nature, in His office, or in His character. Believers are born into this world and, at conversion, are dead to this world, being born in Christ. Jesus is about to die for every sin. Yet some will never believe. Jesus prays for the Almighty to separate the eleven to the work of God that Christ had started. The word of God sanctifies a believer. Setting them apart for the work of God, in holiness, and apart from corruption of the world. The more you believe the word, the more sanctified you become, the operation of truth on the mind is to separate a man from the world, for the service of God. As Jesus was a messenger from the Almighty, He sent His into the world with His message. This chapter, 17, can be read in less than 4 minutes. It is a powerful picture of Christ praying for us in verse 20. Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on Me through their word. Over 2000 years ago Jesus was praying for us who believe in His message of salvation. Amen.
