Texas Ends In-State Tuition For Illegal Migrants - Booting About 60,000 Illegals Off Financial Aid & Discounted Tuition
450,000 illegal migrants are enrolled in colleges and Universities nationwide - paying instate tuition rates - and making American taxpayers foot the bill for their financial aid.
That won't be happening in Texas anymore after the DOJ and Attorney General Ken Paxton challenged the Texas Dream Act of 2001.
U.S. District Court Judge Reed O’Connor approved the motion which argued that the law was “unconstitutional and invalid” for granting benefits to illegal migrants
not extended to all U.S. citizens.
“Today, we’ve ended a discriminatory and un-American provision,” Paxton said in a statement.
The move saves taxpayers millions of dollars - For example, at the University of Texas at Austin, in-state tuition costs about $11,000 annually, while out-of-state students pay roughly $41,000 - taxpayers are left to pick up the $30,000 a year difference.
State Senator Mayes Middleton, said it was a step toward fairness for taxpayers. Middleton estimated the policy cost Texas $150 million annually in subsidies.
“This dismantles one of the incentives driving illegal immigration,” he said
In-state tuition discounts for illegal migrants cost $4–6 billion annually with state financial aid costing $300–500 million across 16 states and D.C. - where illegal migrants are allowed to enroll in college and are offered in state tuition.
