NEW: The Mexican illegal alien charged w/ murder in Paso Robles, CA for allegedly leaving his 6 y/o son to bake to death in a hot car for 9 hours while he worked on a 99 degree day was using a stolen Social Security number to work and has now been charged by the Feds for fraud.
Briant Reyes Estrada was shielded by California's sanctuary state law when he was arrested for a handful of misdemeanors days before the death of his son, when ICE's detainer was ignored due to local law enforcements inability to cooperate with ICE.
USAttyEssayli says Estrada committed fraud while applying to work at a series of hotels in San Luis Obispo County, falsely claiming that he had the right to work in the US, and using a Social Security number belonging to someone else. He was also allegedly using a lawful permanent resident card belonging to someone else, a Salvadoran national.
On top of his local murder charges, he now faces federal charges that could land him up to 10 years in federal prison if convicted - though the local charges will take precedence given their severity.
San Luis Obispo County DA dandowsays "Briant Reyes Estrada had been arrested and booked into the San Luis Obispo County jail on April 29. 2025, after which ICE issued an order to detain the inmate at the county jail. However, California's state "sanctuary" law prohibited our county jail from detaining the individual on that detainer. Had he been properly detained, he would not have been free and able to do what he did to his child on May 10th. This child's death would very likely not have happened."
