Your body is not the problem, it’s the messenger 📣
This picture is the epitome of the people I work with!! Internalizing everything for fear of speaking up and being judged or something mean being said to them.
So many of us are silently carrying the weight of emotions we were never allowed to feel, let alone express. Somewhere along the way, often when we are a child, we learned that using our voice was dangerous. That speaking up would lead to rejection, ridicule, punishment… or worse. So we adapted. It wasn’t safe to simply be yourself so parts of us showed up instead to protect us.
We became the pleaser. The peacemaker. The one who made themselves small so others could stay comfortable.
And with that silence came a deep disconnect from our needs, our boundaries, and even our bodies.
We stopped expressing emotion and started internalizing it. We stopped saying “I’m hurt”, and our bodies started doing the talking instead.
Through eczema.
IBS.
Migraines.
Autoimmune conditions.
Fatigue.
Frozen shoulders.
Mysterious pain doctors can’t explain.
Emotions that don’t get expressed will find another way out and often it’s through the body.
When I work with clients, the first and most important thing I teach is that healing doesn’t start with the mind, it starts with safety to feel and to just to be. Safety to let the body speak without fear of being silenced, dismissed, or shamed.
I now know the signs because when I feel my chest tighten or my throat close, I stop and say to myself:
I need to get this cortisol out of me because I am safe now.
I need to feel this to heal this.
I am here.
I am present.
I am allowed to take up space.
Sometimes I cry and sometimes I shake. But each time, I honour what my body is asking me to release, because ignoring it doesn’t make it go away it just stores it deeper.
This is your reminder:
Your worth is not transactional.
Your voice is not too much.
Your body is not the problem, it’s the messenger.
Find safe spaces to express what you couldn’t before. (The online space is NOT this!!)
Because your silence might have once protected you but now, it’s making you sick.
You’re allowed to feel...
You’re allowed to speak...
You’re allowed to heal...
And you don’t have to do it alone...
