1. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.2. The same was in the beginning with God.John 1:1-2. The gospel of John begins with who Christ is. He is the Word of God. He is God. He was not created He was with God from the beginning. All things were made by Him. Nothing was made that was not made by Him. In Him was life, and the light of men. Christ is the natural life and the spiritual life. It is not that the Word contains life and light, Christ is the life and light. The Light shines in our darkness and we did not comprehend it. This means our darkness did not overcome the Light. Many of us remember how deep our darkness in sin had penetrated our lives. Christ's love was greater and darkness can never remove light. The purpose of John's gospel is that we might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God, and that believing we may have eternal life in His name. Amen.
