17. And he beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner?
18. Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken; but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.
Luke 20:17-18.
The religious leaders come to Christ and ask by what authority He healed and preached the Gospel. And they would not answer His question.
In two verses, Christ explained salvation.
The stone being rejected, Psalm 118:22.
This stone is the chief cornerstone, a cornerstone of a building, bears the weight and stress of two walls that meet at the corner. It is essential to the whole structure.
The two walls brought together are Jews and Gentiles, both given access to eternal life in Christ.
Christ, being the Messiah, the Jews were waiting for the religious leaders rejected.
And Christ says any who come to Him will be broken of pride and self-will.
And all who reject Him will be crushed by Christ in judgment.
This is the Gospel to Jew and Gentile.
There is no entry to Christ's eternal reward without Christ. Amen.
