23. Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be safed? And he said unto them,24. Strive to enter in at the straight gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.Luke 13:23-24. Jesus responds to a question from the crowd about how many shall be saved. He does not answer the question directly but says the right question is, am I saved. Jesus said we must enter in at the narrow gate. There is no room to bring the unnecessary things of the old nature. Jesus is the gate, and only those who have submitted to Him and put on the new nature the new man will be able to enter. Many will come to Christ and hold on to the anchor of sin and find the gate has been closed. Others will look for another gate and find that it doesn't exist when it is to late. To strive to enter the meaning is to agonize to struggle to lay aside anything that would obstruct our entry into the gate. There are many obstacles in our path, the world, the devil, the worst is our own flesh, which is at war with the Almighty and Holy God. All who fight against God will suffer defeat. All who surrender and obey will be rewarded with eternal life. Amen.
