20. And it was told him by certain which said, Thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to see thee.21. And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it.Luke 8:20-21. Jesus is explaining the parable of the sower. His mother and brothers come to speak with Him but are unable to reach Him. Jesus is told His mother and brothers desire to see Him. These are people who know Jesus and His family. The word brethren in Greek delphos is translated from the same womb, adelphos, unity, meaning they knew Jesus, and the four brothers were related. Now, the brothers at this time do not support Jesus or His ministry. But in the upper room on Pentecost, they are changed after Jesus's resurrection. Jesus stated that a spiritual brother who hears God's word and obeys it is closer than a natural born brother. We come into the family of God by faith in Jesus and obedience to the word of God. Those who hear but do not obey are not rewarded. But those who hear and obey become the children of God. Amen.
