9. Then said Jesus unto them, I will ask you one thing; Is it lawful on the sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it?10. And looking round about upon them all, he said unto the man, Stretch forth thy hand. And he did so: and his hand was restored whole as the other.11. And they were filled with madness; and communed one with another what they might do to Jesus.Luke 6:9-11. Jesus is in the synagogue teaching, and the scribes and Pharisees are watching to see if Jesus will heal on the sabbath so they can accuse Him. By their actions, they admit that Jesus has the power to heal, but they have no love for Him. And they most likely brought the man with the withered hand to the synagogue. Jesus asks a question: Is it lawful to good on the sabbath. The truth is there is never a wrong day to something good. Jesus tells the man with the withered hand to stretch out his hand, which was impossible before. But as the man begins to stretch his hand out, it becomes whole. Now, if you look hard enough, you can find fault in anything. Being blinded by a hard heart. The leaders are angry that Jesus broke the sabbath. Yet the priests break the sabbath, preparing the sacrifice, the fire, and circumcision on a male 8 days old. The sabbath does not honor God by keeping rules, or by what we do for God. The sabbath is honored by our realization of what God has done for us through Jesus Christ. And we need to act like Jesus and act in love. Amen.
