18. The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,19. To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.Luke 4:18-19. Luke records Jesus in a synagogue of Nazareth, his hometown, on the sabbath day. Jesus stood up to read, and the book of Isaiah is given to Him. Jesus finds the place of Isaiah 61 in our Bible. When Jesus is finished and everyone is looking at Him, Jesus says, this day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears. Isaiah 61 written 2,711 years ago and 686 years before Jesus is born, is not received by the people who watched Him grow up. Jesus announced He is the Messiah, meaning anointed one. His mission is to declare the good news of the Gospel, to heal what is broken, to free those trapped in sin, to bring spiritual sight to all who are blind, and comfort all who mourn. Some of you have experienced this already. Some have delayed the decision. Others have completely refused Christ's grace to their destruction. Yet, all who believe can rejoice and praise the Son of God for salvation belongs to them. Amen.
