29. Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:
30. For mine eyes have seen thy salvation,
31. Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people;
32. A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.
Luke 2:29-32.
The Evangelist records a promise fulfilled by God to Simeon. The Holy Ghost had told him he would not see death until he had seen Christ the Lord.
Simeon has been prepared for this day, not doubting the promise of God. For all of God's promises are yes and let it be so. Simeon is now prepared to meet the Almighty, for he has peace even in Christ the infant.
Testifying that Christ came for all people.
Christ came as a light to the Gentiles, who Israel rejected.
Christ also came to the glory of Israel, who Simeon calls Christ's people. Even as Israel will reject Christ in the future. Yet Christ shall return for His people. And who can speak against God's word.
For those who know God, He knows the end of a matter before it begins. Glory and honor to Christ, the Savior of the world. Amen.
