30. And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all that soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
31. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.
Mark 12:30-31.
There is in the Bible 613 commandments of God. 248 positive and 365 negative. I found the list on www.gospeloutreach.net and in search type (613 laws of God). This shows where they may be found in God's word.
The religious leaders trying to trap Christ ask which is the 1st commandment. Looking to see if He would neglect some law of Moses. Christ's response is for all to love the Lord with everything you have in spirit, mind, and body. Adam and Eve were told to love the Lord who created them.
You can be obedient to all the commandments, and it will count as nothing without loving God first. Christ adds that the second is to love all as you love yourself. Christ gives the definition of a neighbor in the parable of the good Samaritan.
If all you did was follow these two commands, you would never break any of the others.
For out of love for God comes obedience. And obedience to God is worth more to God than all burnt offerings.
Christ, the obedient Son, has made peace with God for every sin, confessed, and repented of. The blood of Christ has removed all judgment and penalties, seeing He has taken them all on Himself by His sacrifice. Amen.
