2. The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.
3. I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.
4. The sorrows of death compassed me, and the floods of ungodly men made me afraid.
Psalm 18:2-4.
The psalmist starts this song with, I will love (rāham) this word is used once in the entire Bible. Its meaning, is a cherishing, soothing, gentle emotion of the mind.
He continues with his praise of God's deliverance.
The LORD is his rock, his fortress, his deliverer, his God, his strength, in whom he trusted, his buckler, a shield for close combat, the strength of his salvation, his high tower is place of safety where he could see his enemy a long way off.
The psalmist has experienced God's deliverance, and in faith, he calls out to God in his distress.
We shall have battles like the psalmist, some physical, some spiritual. But none shall know defeat who has God as their defense. For who has been created that may prevail against Almighty God.
Let the God of our salvation, Christ the Lord, be exalted. Amen.
