🇺🇸DOJ TO STOP DEFENDING INDEPENDENCE OF KEY AGENCIES
The Department of Justice will no longer defend the independent status of three major regulatory agencies: the National Labor Relations Board, the Federal Trade Commission, and the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
In a letter to Sen. Dick Durbin, Acting Solicitor General Sarah Harris stated that for-cause removal protections—which prevent presidents from firing commissioners at will—are unconstitutional and will no longer be defended by the DOJ.
The move challenges a 90-year-old Supreme Court precedent and could give the White House greater control over these agencies.
