1. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.2. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;3. Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountain shake with the swelling thereof. Selah. Psalm 46:1-3 The psalmist looks to God for help in difficult times and finds it. The psalmist speaks of the people of God. He is protected by the Almighty, and so are His people. The psalmist portrays the most devastating natural disaster. Mountains being cast into the sea. Earthquakes of unknown magnitude. Troubled waters could be floods or rain. The psalmist knows God is his refuge and yours, too. God is his strength, and He is our strength for us and in us. God alone is the psalmist refuge and strength, not God and something or someone else. He is exactly the same for us. Where did the psalmist get this confidence, or where can we find it. God helps not from a distance but a very present help. The secret of the confidence is the awareness of the nearness of God. What can we be afraid of when the God of all creation is with you and has promised to never leave or abandon you. Amen.
