Demand Dismissal of Officer TJ Godbey and Suspension of His AccomplicesThe Issue:"I am a concerned citizen of Danville and I am deeply troubled by a recent incident involving members of our police department. Officer TJ Godbey was caught on video brutally assaulting an elderly man with dementia, his fists raining down on the vulnerable individual while two other officers held the victim down. Such excessive force is not only unforgivable but also defeats the purpose of police officers who are sworn to protect and serve...."Excessive force by the police nationwide has been a critical issue. A report from the National Police Misconduct Reporting Project indicated that the misuse of force was the most common form of police misconduct in the United States, accounting for 23.8% of all reported misconduct in 2010. While I do understand that our police force may face challenging and tense situations, it does not justify such brutal force, especially towards the most helpless amongst us.Seeking justice, I am asking for the immediate dismissal of Officer TJ Godbey. He has violated his oath and betrayed public trust. Additionally, the two other officers present must be suspended unless evidence can be presented proving they filed reports against Godbey's aggressive behavior.The people of Danville must take a stand against the normalization of such actions. By doing nothing, we are sending a message that this behavior is tolerated. Therefore, I am calling on the Danville Police Department and all relevant authorities to take necessary action in this matter.Please join me in demanding justice for the victims of police excesses.
