14. From men which are thy hand, O LORD, from men of the world, which have their portion in this life, and whose belly thou fillest with thy hid treasure: they are full of children, and leave the rest of their substance to their babes.
15. As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.
Psalm 17:14-15.
The psalmist speaks of his deliverance from his enemies, from wicked men of the world. There are spiritual enemies and physical. Satan and proud insensitive men, who care more for their life here and their self-indulgence, which hardened
their heart towards God.
The psalmist pictures them like a lion hunting prey.
The psalmist declares his dependence on God to protect him. Asking God to confront and cast down all who would seek to destroy him. Knowing that God is generous, making it rain on the just and unjust. The enemies of God are filled but never satisfied or content.
The confidence of the psalmist in his personal knowledge of Christ, beholding His face in righteousness, Christ's righteousness, he would be satisfied, for what on earth could compare with it. And the faith of eternal life, when death is but sleep, and when we awake to Christ, with His likeness, being raised from death. We shall need nothing else. Amen.
