3. When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;
4. What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?
5. For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.
6. Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:
Psalm 8:3-6.
The psalmist who had a heart for God praised God in his song for the things he could see that God created.
The sun moon and stars. The universe so vast that if you traveled at the speed of light, it would take 40 billion years to reach the edge.
These are Christ's creations, not something that happened by chance. It is the work of Christ's fingers. What a privilege to praise Him, for the amazing magnitude of His work.
The psalmist shifts from the greatness of heaven to the small insignificance of man.
God is so big. He makes the universe with His fingers. Man is so small he goes unnoticed in the universe.
Yet the Almighty sent Christ to save what He created at the cost of His life. Man, a frail thing, subject to a ticking clock. A compound of earth and sin. Yet God is mindful of him, providing everything he needs, spiritually, physically, and financially.
Man created a little lower than the angels, but in heaven shall be rewarded with glory and honor. This is no fairytale. This is the promise of Christ who redeemed them, that they shall be with Him for eternity. This alone is a reason to praise Jesus Christ the Son of the Living God. Amen.
