18. Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be betrayed unto the chief priests and unto the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death,19. And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he shall rise again.Matthew 20:18-19. Jesus is speaking to the twelve His inner most circle on the way to Jerusalem. This information did not agree with the disciples' belief, so it just went over their heads for now. Jesus reveals what is going to happen to Him and how He shall fulfill His Father's will. He will be betrayed by His own. Sentenced to death by the ones He came to save. Turned over to the Romans because, at this time, the religious leaders were not allowed to execute anyone. Jesus was tortured and mocked for His admission to being the Son of God. Only the Romans could crucify as a form of punishment. Jesus says they will kill me, but I shall come back to you on the third day. Jesus suffered from friends, injustice, insults, pain, and humiliation. As a man He had no power over any of this. As the Son of God, He could have put a stop to it at His will. Jesus stayed the course doing the Father's will. Proving He is God, Jesus raised from death. This power no man has only God. You know Jesus loves you. He really loves you. Amen.
