16. And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?17. And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.Matthew 19:16-17. This young ruler is looking to earn his way into the kingdom by doing a good deed. Jesus tells him to keep the commandment s, and he says which one. All must be kept if this is your way into the kingdom, Christ being the only man who succeeded. There are two tablets, the first deals with man's relationship with God, the second deals with man's relationship with mankind. The young man tells Jesus that he has kept all from the second tablet. What do I yet lack, knowing something was missing. Jesus tells him to sell all that he has and give it to the poor. He will have treasures in heaven and come follow me. Putting Christ first. The man left sorrowful because he could not part with his wealth nor give up everything to follow Jesus. If Christ does not come first in every breath, we shall have no part in the kingdom. Jesus gave His life for us, He gave all He had. We will never be rewarded for half measures or a watered-down love. Amen.
